Sheila Underwood, a Central Coast artist, became serious about her art after retiring from a long career as an interior designer. Impressionistic best describes her style. Painting with large brushes and “juicy” paint for her watercolors and using silk dyes for her silk paintings, she enjoys the flow and spontaneity of the mediums. They are perfect mediums for her dynamic florals and still lifes.
Silk painting requires more planning. Silk is stretched onto a wooden frame and the design is drawn with a resist. Silk dye is used which requires steaming to set. The dyes flow and spread and do beautiful and exciting things. Silk paintings are framed like a watercolor with mats and glass.
